The Tie

The tie is a curved line connecting two notes of the same pitch to combine their durations into one sustained sound. Different from slurs, which indicate phrasing and articulation, tied notes are played as one continuous note without rearticulating and are often used to extend note length beyond a single beat or measure.

Essential for understanding rhythmic continuity and phrasing, this lesson explains how ties affect note timing, when to use them, and how they differ from slurs in musical notation.

Perfect for musicians learning to read and interpret rhythmic notation, this video clarifies how ties help create smooth, connected sounds in music.
